FANTASTIC FEATURE JR
by Danny Camp
Fantastic Feature Jr has had four outs at Zia Park and he has won three of them. His lat- est was the 440-yard $185,505 Hobbs America
Derby-G3 on Oct. 13.
The fastest qualifier, Fantastic Feature Jr,
stepped away from the 2-post and took com- mand early. Jockey Jaime Leos kept his mount focused as they held the lead throughout the remaining distance, crossing
the wire a neck in front. Trained by Juan
Gonzalez, he stopped the clock in :21.801 to earn a 94 speed index. He also earned first place money worth $89,042, that ups his total earnings to $127,055 for owner Joe Rios. His race record stands at three wins out of twelve races.
A. C. Taylor bred Fantastic Feature Jr out of winner
PT Feature Dash. She has
produced 100% winners from three starters. Fantastic Feature Jr is her first stakes winner. “Owner Joe Rios called me and said ‘I’m
bringing you a horse’,” said Gonzalez. “A pri- vate purchase that we had issues with from the start. If it wasn’t a foot abscess, it was something else. We did make the (All American Derby) consolation at Ruidoso, but broke terrible when
it counted.” Gonzalez went
on to say, “He likes Zia Park and does his best running there. He came back good after the finals, but we liked the three weeks between races. He is chill in the barn area, but a beast on the track.” When asked about his future, Gonzalez stated, “We are look- ing at the Zia Championship Dec. 1 and we are not afraid to look down the road to a pos- sible berth in the Champion Of Champions.”
Fyre Wall (Walk Thru Fire-Lady Jessie Dee) finished second under J. Ramirez for owners Linda & Cody Joiner and Lex A. Fabrizio. Michael Joiner is in charge of conditioning.
Ridden by Francisco Ramirez Jr., Breaking New Ground (One Dashing Eagle-Heavenly Trip) overcame a bad start to bank third place money for owner R H Resources and trainer Todd Fincher.
Majestic Mr Perry (Mr Jess Perry-Personal Glory), New News (Majestic Cartel-Executive Promises), Badhabit Jess (Mr Jess Perry-Sheza Bad Habit), First N Sassy (First Down Dash- Jess Sass Me), Pilotpointdashing (First Down Dash-Ms Pilot Point), Volcom One (One Dashing Eagle-Volcoms Chick) and Reyna Azul (First Moonflash-Rodeo Moon) com- pleted the order of finish. Ganster Americano and Heza Special Secret were scratched.
Leos for owner Daniel Balderrama and trainer Cynthia Gonzalez. The gelding won the 2016 New Mexico Classic Futurity-G2.
Jess A Satin Flash (First Moonflash-Jess Satin) took a hard bump at the start, but was able to overcome and finish third for owner Bertha Irigoyen. The Rene Saucedo trainee had Alan Hernandez aboard. The gelding’s last stakes outing was a finalist attempt in the Brigand Stakes last year.
Marcus Medallion (Jesse James Jr-Houstons Medallion), Hollywoodcrown (Heza Motor Scooter-Hollywood Gone TB), Siximoons (First Moonflash-Stevie Six), Major Bites (Jesse James Jr-Dyna Mo Rime), Big Sierra Cartel (Big Daddy Cartel-Sierra Runaway), DM Ada Kat (Gonna Ro Sham Bo-Kat Kora) and Jesse Lane (Jesse James Jr-Champagne Lane) com- pleted the order of finish.

by Danny Camp
Rime Chimes scored his first stakes victory
in the $175,000 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship-RG1 at Zia Park
on Oct. 27.
The colt stepped away from the 9-post and
took command. Ridden by Paul Nieto, Rime Chimes dominated the field and crossed the wire 1 1/4-length in front.
The colt completed the 440 yards in :21.438 for a career best 103
speed index.
Rime Chimes earned the $105,000 winner’s share of the purse for owner Carlos Paez and trainer Jesus Carrete, boosting his total lifetime earnings to $172,079.
Raced exclusively in New Mexico, Rime Chimes ran fourth in the New Mexico Classic Derby-G2 as well as the Dona Ana County Handicap.
Cynthia Dick bred Rime Chimes out of Pelican
Stakes-RG3 winner Rime Has A Chick. She also won the Manuel Lujan Handicap and finished second in multiple stakes races, including the
New Mexico Classic Derby-RG1, New Mexico Fillies and Mares Championship-RG3 and New Mexico Breeders’ Handicap-RG3. Rime Has A Chick has produced 100% money earners from six starters. Rime Chimes is her first stakes winner.
“This stud looks good and feels good,” said Carrete. “He is really nice to be around. You would never
know he’s a stud. He is nice and calm in the barn area but when he gets on the track, he gets excited.
“He stresses a little in the paddock but nothing we can’t deal with. Carlos Paez raised this horse and we are going to keep him in New Mexico races.”
