KISS ME ANYWHERE
by John Moorehouse
Kiss Me Anywhere added black type to his career record overcoming an off start to win the $171,796 Jim Bader Futurity at Prairie
Meadows on Oct. 12.
Trained by Clinton Crawford, Kiss Me
Anywhere swerved in at the start, but jockey Juan Pulido kept him on course. The colt had the lead by a head as he reached the first call, and he maintained that
separation going into the stretch before pulling away during the final yards. He was the favorite at post time, going off at almost even- money odds.
The colt already had experience in stakes races, finishing fifth in the Rainbow Juvenile in July at Ruidoso. He also attempted the Rainbow Futurity and Heritage Place Futurity, but just missed tqualifying for
Altoona Derby
each race. Kiss Me Anywhere made the field for the Jim Bader Futurity with author-
ity, topping the qualifying ladder after finishing his 350-yard trial in :17.532 in
what marked his first out in his home state of Iowa. The colt then surpassed it in the final, covering the same distance in :17.476 for a 101 speed index.
Kiss Me Anywhere got
to the winner’s circle for the third time in six career starts, but this marked his first vic- tory in stakes company. The $77,308 prize from the futu- rity more than quadrupled his prior earnings and pushed his total bankroll into six figures at $102,757.
Summer Hill Farm bred Kiss Me Anywhere out
of lightly raced Paint Me Anywhere. Kiss Me Anywhere is her first starter.
RM Okeys Wagon (Lil Kool Wagon-Okey Dokey Dixie) finished 1 1/2-length clear in second place under Cody Smith. The gelding is owned by Lisa Baumeister and trained by Wayne Garner.
Gracies Tuition (Lil Kool Wagon-Majestic Jet Black) took third place by daylight for James Leeper. The Verle Bohner trainee had Brett Birzer in the irons.
The remaining order of finish in this race for Iowa-bred juveniles saw Haul Your Wood (Lil Kool Wagon-Fly Around Chueca) in fourth followed by, Our War Hero (Valiant Hero-Tell Her Shes Queen), Apollitical Cash (Apollitical Jess-Unveil), Jess Lippy (Jess Lips- Dashing On The Moon) and CR Hez The Man (Heza Fast Dash-LW Evening Lajolla). Hesa Eye Of Gold and MF Docs Corona were both scratched.
     SHOCKINGLYFAMOUS
by Michael Compton
Shockinglyfamous scored the first stakes win of his career with a game score in the $129,794 Altoona Derby at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 12.
With Sergio Dominguez in the irons, Shockinglyfamous broke sharply and con- tested the early proceedings in the 400-
yard test. Finishing with good late energy, Shockinglyfamous surged to the front approaching the wire, defeating a fast-closing Jess Doin Time and jockey
Justin Shepherd to prevail by a neck in a tight finish.
Shockinglyfamous cov- ered the distance in a lively :19.404, earning a career best 105 speed index.
Owned by Stone Chase Stables and Alexia Willis and trained by Kasey Willis, Shockinglyfamous picked up the $51,918 winner’s share of the purse, increasing his bankroll to
$115,837. It was the initial stakes score for the son of One Famous Eagle, who was also a finalist in the Rainbow Derby-G1 and last year’s Texas Classic Futurity-G1 at Lone Star Park.
Clarence Scharbauer III bred Shockinglyfamous out of Thoroughbred Shocktime, winner of the TTA Sales Futurity. She has produced 100% stakes winners, including top earner He’s Comin In Hot,
winner of the Bashford Manor Stakes-G3 and the Clarence Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes.
Runner-up Jess Doin Time (Apollitical Jess-Lenas Rare Lady), a multiple stakes winner, just missed for owner Tom Pouiliot. Trainer Jason Olmstead had Justin Shepherd aboard for the second place trip. The filly won the Minnesota Quarter Horse Derby earlier this
year. She also won the 2018 North Central QHRA Futurity and Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity.
Olmstead also saddled the third-place fin- isher Apollitical Mogul (Apollitical Jess-Cash Cartel), who rallied late under jockey Berkley Packer for third in the colors of owner Tom Maher. The filly won the Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge in September.
Heza Blues Man (Favorite Cartel-Eyesa Blues Girl) finished fourth and was followed by VF Wheely Favorite (Favorite Cartel- Wheely Quick), Americas Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Marys Southernpolicy), Miss Blue October (FDD Dynasty-Breitling Time),
VF Count Dracula (First Smart Money- Beduinos Chick Jet) and Full Power Eagle (One Dashing Eagle-Last to Check Him). Jess Wagon P was scratched.
