Governor’s Stakes
JUSTAFAMILYTRADITION
by Tracy Gantz
Justafamilytradition is well-named because he fol- lowed his half-brother Seize The Win to victory in the $135,000 Governor’s Stakes at Indiana Grand Race Course on Oct. 26. Seize The Win scored in the race in 2014. Justafamilytradition and Seize The Win also have the exact same connections: breeder Jerry Windham, owner Glenn Graff, trainer Matt Frazier, and jockey Shanley Jackson. Justafamilytradition dueled with WRS Apolliticalivory and prevailed by a nose. Seize The Win set the stakes record of :17.582 for 350 yards, while Justafamilytradition stopped the timer in :18.010.
The colt now has total lifetime earnings of $92,900 after collecting the $74,250 winner’s share. Justafamilytradition has made all of his five previous starts at Indiana Grand winning a maiden race and an allowance race. Graff purchased Justafamilytradition from Windham for $55,000 at the 2018 Ruidoso Select Sale.
Windham bred Justafamilytradition out of winner Jess An Illusion. The mare has produced 11 winners from 13 starters. Justafamilytradition is the fourth stakes winner in the brood.
Williams Racing Stables Inc.’s homebred WRS Apolliticalivory (Apollitical Blood-Sassy Follies) grabbed second by a neck with Berkley Packer aboard. Randy Smith trains the gelding.
Giovani Vazquez-Gomez rode My Pillow (Favorite Cartel-Iba Quick Chick) to third for trainer Jessica Vazquez and owner Daniel Gamez.
Rounding out the field were Merciless Fire
(Hes Relentless-Walk Thru My Soul), First Hero V (One Valiant Hero-Perrys First), WRS Quick Blood (Apollitical Blood-WRS Quick Wagon), Coronado Coast (Coronado Cartel-Bicoastal), The Black Ace (Bodacious Dash-Ally Bye Bye), SBM Soulja Boy (Coronado Cartel-So Elegantly) and Relentless Chick (Hes Relentless-Meaningful Memories).
Hoosier Park Classic
BEACH TREAT
by Michael Compton
The $83,300 Hoosier Park Classic at Indiana Grand on Oct. 4 proved to be a competitive affair, with Beach Treat getting the nod over a classy group in a blanket finish.
Ridden by Oscar Macias, Beach Treat raced in contention throughout the 400-yard event, tracking the early leaders Stinkin Rich and Beach Bum Eddie from third away from the gate. Those three raced as a team through the lane, with Beach Treat getting his head in front of Stinkin Rich and jockey Shanley Jackson at the finish in a determined effort. In win- ning his third consecutive race, Beach Treat stopped the timer in :19.852, earning a 91 speed index. Ronald Brown owns and trains the gelding.
It was the eighth career win for Beach Treat
and his fifth of the season with Macias in the irons. Beach Treat now has a record of 23-8(2)-4-2 with $165,974 banked. His other stakes win came in his race prior to winning the Hoosier Park Classic in the Bob Woodard Mamorial Classic.
Coronet Farm bred Beach Treat out of winner Treat Me To Cash. She has produced 100% winners from two starters. Beach Treat is her first stakes winner.
Stinkin Rich (One Famous Eagle-Miss Scarlet), Indiana’s all-time richest Quarter Horse and 2-time defending winner in this race, was 2nd. The multiple stakes-winner races for Carolyn Bruce & trainer
Matt Frazier. Beach Bum Eddie (Escondido Beach- Carman Copy) was 3rd under Luz Martinez. The 6-year-old gelding is owned & trained by Anthony Cunningham. Followed by American Purr (American Runaway-This Cat Purrs), Beach Mercedes (Escondido Beach-Jess Alive Bully), Beach Cartel (Escondido Beach-Flashin Dee Dee), Be Afraid (Tac It Like A Man-Cajun Eye Opener), WH Kenny G (Gold Medal Jess-Designer Dash), HQH Fancy Pants (Fantastic Corona Jr-Streakin Keep Sake) & Rockys Candy Shop (Fantastic Corona Jr-Jesses Candy).
QHRAI Derby
PRITTY
by Tracy Gantz
Pritty performs at her best when she has a little extra time between races. Jockey Jose Beltran noticed the difference with a three-week gap between
the Oct. 5 trials and final of the $124,200 QHRAI Derby on Oct. 26, as Pritty came home on top at Indiana Grand Race Course.
Favored at 2-1 and the second-fastest qualifier with a length trial win, Pritty took the lead shortly after the start of the 400-yard QHRAI Derby for Beltran. She pulled out to a 3/4-length lead at the wire in :20.288, posting an 81 speed index.
Ricardo Martinez trains Pritty for owner Miguel Lechuga. Last year Pritty finished second in the QHRA of Indiana Stallion Service Auction Futurity.
The $68,310 winner’s share boosted the filly’s bankroll to $132,321.
Saucer Five LP bred the filly out of unraced homebred SFR Fire N Brimstone. She has produced 100% winners from two starters. Pritty is her first stakes winner.
Williams Racing Stables Inc.’s homebred WRS Valentino (Mighty B Valiant-WRS Kissandteller) finished second. Berkley Packer rode the gelding for trainer Randy Smith. WRS Valentino won the 2018 QHRA of Indiana Stallion Service Auction Futurity.
Oscar Macias piloted Worth Doing Right (Tempting Dash-Forever Bradgelina) to third for trainer Anthony Cunningham and owner Pamela Brickley Hann. Worth Doing Right also finished third in the Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby in July.
Completing the field were Fast Prize Six (Mr Jess Perry-Fast Prize Ribbon), La Jolla Diamante (First Moonflash-Valentina La Jolla), Lethal Toll (FDD Dynasty-Miss Lethal), Hospitaliti (Mr Jess Perry-Shenoshercorona), JA B Valiant (Mighty B Valiant-JA Impetuously) and My Favorite Legacy (Favorite Cartel-Miss Inseprable). Miss Eysa Senator was scratched.
