HONEYS PAINTED POP
by Tracy Gantz
Two separate incidents led to the disqualification of the first and second finishers in the $55,010 Canada Cup Futurity-RG3 at Century Downs Oct. 20. Honeys Painted Pop was declared the winner.
At the start, Zoomn On Bye came in and caused interference to Tee For Teller and Movin Timber. Zoomn On Bye ended up on the rail and finished second, while Tee For Teller and Movin Timber finished ninth and 10th.
Nearing the wire, Light Footed came in and impeded Honeys Painted Pop and jockey D.I. Benitez, forcing Benitez to take up. Light Footed fin- ished first, a nose in front of Zoomn On Bye, with Honeys Painted Pop a 1/2-length back in third.
The stewards disqualified Zoomn On Bye from second to 10th for the first incident, moving Honeys Painted Pop into second, and then Light Footed from first to second for the second incident, moving Honeys Painted Pop into first.
Honeys Painted Pop, trained by Buckey Stockwell, who owns him with Tracey Beakstead and Bob Perlich, was winning his second stakes. Gary Kurz bred Honeys Painted Pop out of stakes-winning mare Gols Honey Money Pop. The mare has three starters, all winners.
William Leech owns and trains second-place Light Footed (Stel Corona-Chickafirst), ridden by Ricardo Moreno. Fourth-place finisher Suits (First Timber-Burners Beauty), owned, bred, and trained by Wesley Oulton, was elevated to third.
Yuma Class (Three Ten To Yuma B-Class Acte) was moved into fourth, followed by Quarter Sawn (First Timber-Starlite Delight), Sasses Loki (First Timber-Sass N Dass), Timbergold (First Timber- Gilded Gold), Tee For Teller (Teller Cartel-Feelin The Fever), and Movin Timber (First Timber- Wakeup Miss Moon). Laurie Ferguson trains Singles Cruise for owners Barry and Janice Sather. Last year at Grand Prairie, Singles Cruise won the Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity and Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge. This year at Los Alamitos, she captured the James S. Smith Memorial Handicap. When trained by Hector Magallanes, she finished second in the 2019 Sun Downs Derby Challenge.

Herman Jefferson Stakes
ILLTAKEYOUFORARIDE
by Michael Compton
Illtakeyouforaride registered his second stakes win of the year with a game victory in the $50,000 Herman Jefferson Stakes at Zia Park on Oct. 6.
Ridden by Kelsi Purcell, who has been aboard the five-year-old brown gelding in all four of his 2019 starts, Illtakeyouforaride raced in third early in the 870-yard marathon. He surged to the front in the stretch, poking a head in front of Mahoney N Tacklebery and then withstood a late rally from a fast-closing Spit Prize Corona to prevail by a neck at the finish. Trained by Michael Joiner, Illtakeyouforaride covered the distance in :46.308, earning a 90 speed index.
It was the second stakes win for Illtakeyouforaride, who annexed the Bill Reed Memorial at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 31. This win improved his record to 19-5(2)-4-5(1) and the $29,700 winner’s share increased his bankroll to $91,970 for owner Illtakeyourforaride Partnership.
Kirk M. Goodfellow bred Illtakeyouforaride out of TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby-G3 winner Dashingfordestiny. She has produced 100% money earners from 11 starters. Illtakeyouforaride is her second stakes winner.
Runner-up Spit Prize Corona (Spit Curl Jess-Fast Prize Corona) closed ground resolutely in the stretch and just missed under Martin Felix. The five-year- old gelding is owned by Ruben Mendoza and trained by Rodolfo Valles.
Mahoney N Tacklebery (Favorite Cartel- Fountain Bleu) and jockey Ry Eikleberry showed early speed and held third for owner Ben Peterson and trainer Todd Fincher.
Zoomin Racer (Jess Zoomin-Racing Winner), J Boy A (Jess Zoomin-Mighty Classy Lassy), D
E Wagons Strawfly (Genuine Strawfly-Wagons Maiden) and Sin Tachas First (First Timber-Sin Tachas Grace) completed the order of finish.
