When some of the biggest names in the industry take an interest in yout colt, you can bet you’ve got a nice horse. That’s exactly what happened with Feature Mr Bojangles, and everyone’s predictions were spot on when the colt was named Champion Two- Year-Old Colt for 2011.
“Me and Roberto (Sanchez) bought him
at the sale. We are just pretty lucky to have
the horse and real lucky to be training him,” said Jaime Dominguez, who was part of the original partnership that purchased the colt
for $16,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling
Sale in 2010. “We’re pretty happy to have Mr. Hubbard and Mr. Helzer be partners with the horse. We wanted to have the best for the horse and I think that’s what the horse needs.”
Feature Mr Bojangles first made head-
lines at SunRay Park, where he won the Four Corners Futurity. Stepping up to stiffer compe- tition, he made his way to Ruidoso Downs for the Ruidoso Futurity-G1. Sent off at odds of 9-1, he scored an upset win that day, cementing himself as one of the nation’s top juveniles.
Hubbard and Helzer bought interests in the colt prior to the All American Futurity-G1 trials, and while Feature Mr Bojangles won his trial, he failed to qualify for the finals. He did, however, add another graded stakes win to his record in the Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity.
“We’re going to get him ready for the big derbies at Ruidoso. I talked to Roberto the other day and the horse is doing really great, couldn’t be in better hands and we’re looking forward to a big summer, hopefully,” said Tom Goncharoff, representing R.D. Hubbard.
With three stakes wins to his credit and $541,612 earned, Feature Mr Bojangles looks to have a bright future ahead.
Bred by Joyce Erickson, Feature Mr Bojangles is sired by Feature Mr Jess and out of Catch This Dash, a half-sister to Champion Jumping Tac Flash. This is the same maternal family as 2011 South American Champion Fantastic For Me.
