Sby Tracy Gantz
hott Gun added California to his list of states
in which he has won. After capturing races in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and his native Texas, he successfully debuted at Los Alamitos in the March 19 Moonist Stakes.
Favored London Toby came in at the start and didn’t get away quickly, unlike Shott Gun, who broke just like his name. Shott Gun led by a short margin throughout the 400 yards under jockey Jose Nicasio and then drew away slightly to score by 1/2-length in :19.608.
Heath Taylor trains Shott Gun for owner Bobby Cox, who also bred the 5-year-old gelding. At two in 2020, Shott Gun won the Heritage Place Futurity-G1 at Remington Park. The $15,000 payday from this race improved the four-year-old brown filly’s total bankroll
to $152,342.

Tby Michael Compton
alk about a blanket finish. When the dust settled at
the conclusion of the 250-yard Mighty Deck Three Stakes-RG2 at Remington Park on March 10, all
nine horses in the race crossed the wire together with Apollitical Payoff bravely prevailing in the tight finish.
Ridden by Edwin Escobedo, Apollitical Payoff raced in fifth position early. As the field raced toward the finish, Apollitical Payoff was able to forge to a narrow lead, defeating JK Wildcat Red by a head at the wire. It was another neck back to third-place finisher Charlies Fury and then as the official chart reveals, remarkably all the entrants were separated by just a nose or a head at the finish all the way through ninth place.
Apollitical Payoff stopped the timer in :13.269 and earned a speed index of 93. Owned and bred
by Brenda Reiswig and trained by Jason Olmstead, Apollitical Payoff, winner of the Black Gold Futurity in 2021, improved his overall record to 19-5-5-2 and the $38,400 winner’s share of the purse increased his lifetime earnings to $189,827. Bred in Oklahoma, Apollitical Payoff is out of stakes winner Seis The Royal Cash.
