SOFT ON THE CORONAS
by Michael Cusortelli
Joseph Landreneau’s Soft On The Coronas earned his first stakes victory in the $50,000 Vinton Stakes for Louisiana-bred sophomores at Delta Downs on May 18.
Sent to post as the 2-1 favorite in the full field of 10, Soft On The Coronas covered 400 yards in :19.643 and his winning margin was a head over 3-1 second choice Five Bar Perry. Everardo Rodriguez rode Soft On The Coronas for trainer Lanny Keith.
The gelding was stretching out in distance com- ing off of a second-place finish in a 350-yard non- winners-of-three allowance at Delta Downs on April 25. Soft On The Coronas was bred by Donald W. Aymond, and he was purchased by Landreneau for $11,500 at the 2017 Louisiana QHBA Yearling Sale.
Soft On The Coronas is out of 4-time win-
ner Soft Summer Jess, who finished third in the Louisiana Downs Champions Derby-RG2. She has produced 100% winners from four starters. Soft On The Coronas is her first stakes winner.
Raced exclusively in Louisiana, Soft On The Coronas has won three of 10 outs and has banked $51,193, of which $43,743 has been earned this season.

Mothers Day Stakes
LIL BISCUIT
by Michael Compton
Lil Biscuit came out running in her seasonal bow on May 11, joining the ranks of stakes winners by solidly taking the $37,000 Mother’s Day Stakes at
Delta Downs.
Making her first start of the year, Lil Biscuit
broke alertly under jockey Randy Edison in the 350- yard test. She raced in second position early, chasing SS Classyjess away from the gate. Those two dueled through the lane, with Lil Biscuit powering clear late to score by 1-length.
The sorrel filly stopped the timer in :17.618, earning an 89 speed index for trainer Heath Taylor. Owned by MCM Farm LLC and PDC Racing,
Lil Biscuit picked up the $24,000 winner’s share of the purse, boosting her career bankroll to $66,573.
Lil Biscuit is now a winner in four of six lifetime starts. She rattled off three consecutive victories at Delta Downs last year at three, when she was also a finalist in the Louisiana Breeders Derby.
Bred in Louisiana by Israel Flores, Lil Biscuit is a 4-year-old daughter of Heza Fast Dash out of the unraced Thoroughbred mare Biscuit Eater, a Texas- bred by Kentucky Jazz.
Runner-up SS Classyjess (Rock Solid Jess-
High Class Broad) showed the way early for jockey Everardo Rodriguez, but couldn’t match strides with the winner late and finished second for owner Edgar Rosales and trainer Jose Carrizales. This was the filly’s first attempt in stakes company.
Monees Fast Cash (Heza Fast Dash-Cash for Mawnee) and jockey John Hamilton raced evenly
to finish third for owner Elite Quarter Horses and trainer Fernando Lopez. She was second in the Party Girl Stakes earlier this year.
Followed by Corona Down Perry (Coronas Leaving You-Second Down Perry) & Flamin Hot Fortune (Jet Black Patriot-Toast to Fortune) . Corona Carmelita & Moon Dash Cartel were scratched.
Virgil Bond Stakes
HEZA DASH FASTER
by Michael Compton
The Virgil Bond Stakes at Delta Downs on May 31 attracted a field of six distance specialists, but the 870-yard marathon was simply a two-horse contest. Louisiana Dressblues and Heza Dash Faster broke side by side from the 1-post and 2-post, respectively, and from the time the latch was sprung at the start- ing gate, the two raced as a team to the wire.
Louisiana Dressblues and jockey Donell Blake assumed the early lead with Heza Dash Faster and Luis Vivanco giving chase from second. The two dueled through the lane, however at the head of the lane, Louisiana Dressblues drifted out and bumped his rival. After the incident, the two drove to the finish together with Louisiana Dressblues getting his nose down in time to cross the wire first. The result didn’t stand as Louisiana Dressblues was disqualified from first to second for the interference, and Heza Dash Faster was awarded the victory.
Heza Dash Faster covered the distance in :46.146 and earned a 93 speed index for owner Jose Carlos Hernandez and trainer Eliseo Celestino. It was the 4-year-old gelding’s fourth win and initial stakes score from 19 lifetime starts. Bred in Louisiana by Easy Acres Performance Horses, Heza Dash Faster is produced from the Thoroughbred mare and 6-time winner during her racing career My Elle Prada, a daughter of the Irish-bred El Prado.
Louisiana Dressblues (Jess Louisiana Blue- Charlomaine) placed second for owner Wilson One Consulting LLC and trainer Trey Willis.
JW Who Dat (Agouti-EW Comment) and jockey Antonio Alberto finished third for owner Giovanni Barron and trainer Alejandro Garza.
Rakin in the Jax (Rakin In The Cash-Alcohol And Ambiance), Eton (Jess Louisiana Blue-En Trepeins Jewel) and Zoomins Jewel (Zoomin For Bux-Supers First Jewel) completed the order of finish. Dashing With Courage and Jes A Spitfire were scratched.
