in 2011, Yin Your Eyes got to the Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship-G1 via Sandy Downs
in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The route proved fortuitous
when he captured the final at Los Alamitos, and Idaho may again prove key in 2012. Yin Your
Eyes qualified for this year’s Distance Challenge Championship at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 27 by winning the Red Cell Les Bois Distance Challenge Stakes in Boise on July 6.
Favored at 9-5, Yin Your Eyes settled into fourth under jockey Robert Burney. He accelerated four wide around the turn to catch leader Lucky Royal Rabbit and win by a half-length in :45.159 for 870 yards.
Bill Hoberg trains Yin Your Eyes and bred him in Washington with D. Canfield. Hoberg gave the gelding to Rene Laatsch in 2010, and Laatsch has been an enthusiastic owner. Last year Yin Your Eyes won six of eight starts. Earlier this year, he finished third in the Remington Distance Challenge-G3.
Winner Apollo Snowbound produced Yin Your Eyes as her first foal. The mare has since added another starter and winner. Hoburg bought Apollo Snowbound because he likes her sire, Snowbound-TB.
LFR Simply The Best (Heza Fast Man-Stunning Rockette) closed for second under Berkley Packer. Merritt Pride, who bred and trains the mare, co-owns her with John Witte. She placed in four stakes last year.
Lee Markholt’s homebred Lucky Royal Rabbit (Its Royal Time-Bunnette Foo Foo) ran third with Deborah Hoonan in the irons. Nick Lowe trains the gelding, who has won seven of 30 starts.
Completing the field were To Shay (Vital Sign-Four O Wee Steffi), Jess Another Reb (Jess Louisiana Blue-Stunning Rockette), Much Authority (Scrutinizer-Angels Cut-TB), Wynnin On Time (Feature Mr Jess-Dash For The Wyn), Coolncollected (Separatist-BCR Really Cool), and Toss Me A Corona (Chicks Beduino-Coronas First Down).

it looks like Dreamers Cartel is hitting her stride. The 5-year-old mare owned by Junior Quarter Horses, Inc., won the $27,000 Merial Arapahoe Distaff
Challenge on July 7 at Arapahoe Park. In the process, she qualified for the $175,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship-G1 on Oct. 27 at Prairie Meadows.
Dreamers Cartel has taken the road less traveled to reach the Distaff. She didn’t make a single start until 2011, when she broke her maiden and was third in the Distaff Arapahoe Challenge. This year, the Chris Gandarilla trainee won her Distaff trial, cover- ing the 400 yards in :19.678 to post the fastest time.
Drawing the inside starting position, the mare made a quick break from the gates to take the lead. She found another gear during the final 100 yards, pulling away to win by a length.
Ridden by jockey Russell Vicchrilli, Dreamers Cartel covered the distance in :20.090, earning $12,420 to take her career bankroll to $40,757.
John C. Sperry bred both Dreamers Cartel and her dam, Dreams Can Fly. The stakes-placed mare has three starters among five offspring. Dreamers Cartel is the first stakes winner.
Urbanite (Check Him Out-Imjumpn) finished second for Royal Dream Ranch LLC. The Jaime Dominguez trainee had Felipe Garcia-Luna in the irons. Jesiacountrychick (Country Chicks Man-Miss Jess Rogue) placed third by a neck. Jesiacountrychick is owned by Terry Wootan and trained by Larry Chavez. Cody Jensen did the riding.
The remaining order of finish was Opportunity Runaway (Wave Carver-Strawfly Six), Corona For You (Corona For Me-My First Twist), Fast Dash Tanisha (Heza Fast Dash-Tanisha), Shake Em Ruby (Royal Shake Em-Concorde’s Devil TB), Hardly A Tres (Tres Seis-Hardly Hateful), A Regal Blue Sky (A Regal Choice-Devil In A Blue Jess) and Miss Country Chicks (Country Chicks Man-Legacys Echo).
western States P&A Futurity

it takes a special horse to win a stakes in his very first start. That’s exactly what the Paint Azures Vision did. Without any official experience on the
racetrack, he captured the July 7 Western States Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Arapahoe Park.
Ridden by Fernando Rojas, Azures Vision came out of post one in good order. He drifted to the cen- ter of the track, but by then had daylight on the rest of the field. From that point it was only a question of how far he would win by. He eventually drew away by 2 3/4 lengths over 6-5 favorite Yovanies Gold. Azures Vision stopped the clock in :18.525.
Manuel Orozco trains Azures Vision for owner Jesus Guerrero. John and Neva Downing’s The Painted Pitchfork bred the colt in Colorado from winner
Azure Treasure. The Paint mare has produced three winners from eight starters, and all three have won stakes. Azures Meteor captured the 2003 Harvest Cup Futurity, and General Te won the 2003 Pioneer Derby.
Azures Vision is by the Quarter Horse stallion Visionarian, a son of Mr Jess Perry. The broodmare sire, Treasured, is the all-time leading broodmare sire of Paint racehorses, with more than $2 million in earnings.
Ryan Sanchez rode Yovanies Gold-APHA (Agolden Boy Audition-Placida) for trainer Ted Sanchez and owner Valencias Quarter Horses. Prior to the Western States, Yovanies Gold won his trial and finished second in the First Interstate Bank Futurity.
Cool Deception (Hotdoggin-Shes Cool), the lone Appaloosa in the field, finished third under Russell Vicchrilli. Christie Weeder owns the filly, who is trained by Tim Weeder. Cool Deception ran fifth at Arapahoe in her only race prior to the Western States.
Rounding out the field were Ima Dancin Bee- APHA (Dos Poruno-Bettors Rascal), Pams Purple Door-APHA (Dos Poruno-Two Cents Worth), and Dont Tell-APHA (Chasin The Money-Streakin Squaw). LD Flashback-APHA was scratched.
