SIGN OF CORONA
by John Moorehouse
Sign Of Corona nearly doubled his lifetime bankroll, and positioned himself for another huge payday, by winning the $76,960 Bank Of America Les Bois Park Challenge Championship on Aug. 8. Owned by RTM Stables, LLC & Carol McKinney, Sign Of Corona reg- istered his 5th win in 12 career starts, and 4th in stakes company. This win also qualified the 4-year-old geld- ing to the Bank Of America Challenge Championship taking place Nov. 7 at Lone Star Park in Texas.
Winless in his previous 3 outs in 2015, Sign Of Corona hadn’t notched a victory since Sept. 5 of
last year and picked a fine time to end that drought. Drawing the outside post in the 10-horse field, the gelding broke on top, led by three-quarters at the 1st call and remained in front the rest of the way. He had a 1/2-length advantage entering the stretch, then withstood a late challenge to win by a neck.
James Hanson trains Sign Of Corona, who had Eddie Aceves aboard for the 440-yard trip, which was completed in :21.420 for a 106 speed index. This win produced a $35,356 payday. Other stakes wins for Sign Of Corona include last year’s runnings of the Les Bois Derby Challenge and Eastern Idaho State Fair Bonus, along with the 2013 Rocky Mountain Spring Classic.
Greg Creager bred Sign Of Corona, the only stakes winner out of Electric Sign, whom Creager also owns. Fastest qualifier & favorite Time For Jesse Lee (Mr
Jesse Lee-Time For Noble) was 2nd under Nikeela Black for owner Jim Walker & trainer Monty Arrossa. James Hanson also trains Micato (Ivory James-Special Crys), 3rd under Cody Wainscott for owners Mark and Ryan Hanson. Followed by Margaritas N Coronas (Corona Czech-Fly Margarita), Snowboundbeast (Snowbound TB-Going Single), SS Paydirt (Carters Cartel-Mia Ta Fame), Bellingham (Check Him Out-My Ladys Eyes), Specials Gold (Voghts Gold-Special Anywhere), Corona Toast (Toast To Dash-Corona Cerveza) & Bogue (Brimmerton-Cool N Sixy TB).

PAPPAS IN THE HOUSE
by Tracy Gantz
The Hanson family had an incredible run at Les Bois Park on Aug. 7-8. Perhaps the best win came in
the Aug. 8 John Deere Les Bois Juvenile Challenge, with Jim Hanson-trained horses nabbing the first four spots. The winner, Pappas In The House, has steadily built a reputation as the best 2 year old at Les Bois. He is practically perfect at the Idaho track in six starts.
Though he was the third-fastest qualifier in win- ning his July 24 trial by 1 1/2-lengths, Pappas In The House’s earlier wins, including the Bitterroot Futurity, earned him the even-money favorite’s role. He burst out in front, but Hanson’s other horses never let him get far ahead. Pappas In The House, ridden by Eddie Aceves, won by a nose in :17.532 for the 350 yards.
Pappas In The House races for Rob Evans and Hanson Racing LLC. Jim Hanson purchased him for $20,000 at the 2014 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
MacKie Racing LLC bred Pappas In The House in Oklahoma from Champion Mongoose Jet Eye, who in 2004 set a world record at Sunland Park. She has produced nine winners in 12 starters, including stakes winner Madresita and two stakes-placed runners.
Hanson also trains 2nd-placed Magic Moment Blues (Carters Cartel-Run The Dash), ridden by Nakia Ramirez, and 3rd-placed First Black Knight (Ivory James-Oh What A Perks), with Cody Wainscott up. The Hansons’ RTM Stable LLC, Robin Dunn, and Larry Chapple own both. Magic Moment Blues ran 2nd in the Knight Transportation Futurity, with Pappas In The House 3rd and First Black Knight 5th. Followed by Coronas Fast Game (Coronas Fast Dash-Game Snowlady), First Prize Luke (Carters Cartel-First Prize Joy), Bo Dash Back (Bodacious Dash-Dash Back To Me), Classy Katrina (Tempting Dash-Deans Dusty Bunny), Love To Reason BR (Good Reason SA-Strength In Numbers), Timely Delivery (Volcom-One Prompt Chick) & Prize Pearl (Carters Cartel-First Prize Pearl).

LIL DIP A NITRO
by John Moorehouse
Lil Dip A Nitro beat the odds and charged to his first stakes triumph in nearly two calendar years, winning the $27,270 Zoetis Les Bois Park Distance
Challenge by daylight on July 29.
A five-year-old gelding, Lil Dip A Nitro picked
up his sixth win in 24 lifetime starts. Two of his vic- tories have come in stakes company. Lil Dip A Nitro took the 2013 running of the Idaho Cup Derby, which took place Aug. 10 of 2013 at this same track.
Oddsmakers placed Lil Dip A Nitro as a 16-1 underdog but none of that mattered when the gates opened. Jockey Robert Burney had the gelding in
front by a head at the first call, and Lil Dip A Nitro proceeded to widen the separation over the remainder of the 870-yards. They led by 1/2-length going into the stretch, then doubled their advantage to enjoy a 1-length cushion as they hit the wire. Lil Dip A Nitro finished the 870-yard out in :45.911, posting an 89 speed index.
Dawna Jenkins and Dennis Cain own Lil Dip
A Nitro, who brought home a $13,090 payday that increased his cumulative earnings to $40,984. Bill Hoburg trains Lil Dip A Nitro, who’s the only stakes winner out of his dam, Attract. The unraced mare has produced 6 starters from 8 foals. Dennis and Gerri Cain own Attract and bred Lil Dip A Nitro.
Robert Johnson trains the other two horses
who hit the board. Hastabealeader (Hasta Be Fast- Leadmetoyourladder) was the betting favorite at almost even-money odds but finished second for owner John G. Johnson. Eddie Aceves drew the riding assignment. Panther Purrfect (Panther Mountain-Toast To Gypsy) took third place for Legacy Ranch. The filly had Tony Guymon in the irons. Followed by Makinabundle (Maknmoves-Bundle Doe), Zonic Zoom (Shazoom- Miss Truckle Sign), Larryville (Stel Corona-Ynot Bar), Queens Prince Gol (Gol-Snowbound Queen) & DQ’d from 4th to last for interference CMB Numero Uno (Dos Poruno-Shergars Revenge TB).
