Idaho Cup Derby
RTM MR CACCIA
by Tracy Gantz
The Hanson family is based in Idaho, which makes winning the Aug. 7 Idaho Cup Derby with homebred RTM Mr Caccia at Les Bois Park even more enjoyable. Jim and Susan Hanson race as RTM Stables LLC, the RTM representing their adult children, Ryan, Theresa, and Mark.
RTM Mr Caccia, who qualified the fastest for
the Derby when winning his July 22 trial, drew into the outside post with Nakia Ramirez aboard for the finals. He broke quickly to lead right from the start of the 400 yards. No rival could get close, as RTM Mr Caccia won by 3/4-length as the 3-5 favorite in :19.903.
Ryan and Mark Hanson have both trained RTM Mr Caccia, though for the Idaho Cup Derby, their father performed the training duties. The gelding began his career at Los Alamitos, but has won all of his races in his native state of Idaho. In May he scored back- to-back victories at Pocatello Downs, and he finished second in the June 20 Bitterroot Derby at Les Bois.
Susan Hanson bred RTM Mr Caccia from winner Shirleys Secret. The mare has produced four starters, all winners, including RTM Say Your Prayers, who won the 2012 Sandy Downs Distaff Challenge and placed in three other stakes.
Jeremy Price trains second-place JP Future Secret (Furrtreeous-Cocas Secret) and co-owns him with Brian Price. Justin Vanderwoude rode the gelding, a two-time winner. Don Knopp’s homebred DK The Nacho Lady (Separatist-A Special First) finished third with jockey Jesus Virgen in the irons. Jarrett Mills trains the filly, who in 10 starts has now won once with three seconds and two thirds. Followed by Heza Corona Man (Coronas Fast Dash-I Am Proud), Now Im Good (Im Alright Now-Alis Bug), As Needed (Mighty Corona-Shez Changing Ways), Seven Visions (Hiclass La Jolla-Seven Saphires), Minya (Stoli-Love That Six), Nashota (Stoli-Love That Six) & JML Cees Firstchoice (A Regal Choice-Cee The Blurr).

FLYBYE 109
by John Moorehouse
Flybye 109 soared into black type on July 29 at Northlands Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, making an impressive run to victory in the $45,616
Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity.
Buckey A. Stockwell owns, home-bred and trains
Flybye 109, a 2-year-old filly who reached the win- ner’s circle for the second time in four lifetime starts.
Flybye 109 has raced exclusively on the Alberta circuit, making her debut in June of this year at Lethbridge. She already got a taste of stakes competition in the Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3 in which she was 5th. After winning her July 8 trial and topping the qualify- ing ladder for the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity, there was no catching her in her 2nd career futurity.
With jockey Jose Rocha aboard, Flybye 109 promptly seized a 1/2-length lead by the first call and maintained that separation going into the stretch. The filly held off a late challenge from First Prize Sass, and reached the finish line first by a head. Flybye 109 com- pleted the 330-yard trip in :16.970, posting a 98 speed index and producing a $20,527 payday that greatly increased her career earnings to a new total of $26,720. The filly was the favorite at the betting window as well, going off at less than 2-1 odds by post time.
Stockwell also owns Flybye 109’s dam Eyes Double Quick, who made a handful of starts before becoming a broodmare. All five of her offspring have made starts, but Flybye 109 becomes her first stakes winner.
First Prize Sass (First Timber-Sass N Dass) was 2nd under Danielle DiBert for owner/trainer Wesley Oulton. Sheaintawhiskylulaby (Sizzling Red Corona- Cleats Rockette) was 3rd under Ricardo Moreno for owner/trainer William Leech. Followed by Fiftys Carbon Copy (Promised Class-Streakin CC), Better Knickers (First Timber-Better Secret), Northfork Sizzle (Sizzling Red Corona-RJ Bitterroot Babe), Johnathen Meyer (Mac Meyers-Mea Be Fit To Fly) & Send Gold (Cuivre River-Fantastic Race Babe).

BIG HOSS ROLLIN
by John Moorehouse
Big Hoss Rollin rolled into the record books on July 29 at Northlands Park, setting the track’s 330- yard record en route to victory in the $22,905 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby. The 3-year-old gelding covered
the distance in :16.684, surpassing the standing record of :16.71 set by Flashy Red Corona on June 25 of last year. Big Hoss Rollin, who benefited from a 20 mph tailwind, registered a blistering 107 speed index.
Deanne Davies owns and trains Big Hoss Rollin, and jockey Ramiro Castillo was aboard for the record-setting run, which also produced the first career stakes win for the sophomore gelding.
Despite making Northlands Park history, Big Hoss Rollin didn’t take the lead until late in the race. He broke well from the 6-gate and was running 2nd before chasing down Bitterroot Corona in the stretch and beat- ing that rival to the wire by a neck to notch his 3rd win in 12 starts. Davies banked a $10,308 payday, which increased the lifetime earnings of Big Hoss Rollin to $35,201. Big Hoss Rollin already had black type, thanks to a pair of 2nd-place finishes in stakes company.
Sazwan Speed Horses bred Big Hoss Rollin and owns his dam, the lightly raced Sables Val who now has produced a pair of stakes winners. The other
is Asbigastexas, who won the 2013 Black Gold Distance Series Classic at Northlands Park.
Bitterroot Corona (Sizzlin Red Corona-RJ Bitterroot Babe) was 2nd under Ricardo Moreno for K. Glenn Wills & trainer William Leech. Cruisinfourabruisin (First Timber-Tagulator) was 3rd under Ruben Saenz for Barry & Janice Sather, who is also the trainer. Followed by Streaken Timber (First Timber-Streakin Jordash), Augie Meyer (Mac Meyers-Eyes Agouti), Socket To Em Logie (Special Fly Bye-A Regal Purpose), Pros Rockstar (Promised Class-Streakin CC), KG Guy (Sizzlin Red Corona-Win Thru Traffic), Ill Bye The Corona (Special Fly Bye-Coronas Halo) & Pros Kingpin (Promised Class-Im Queen Of The West).
