MR VICTORY SIX
by Michael Cusortelli
Another slot in this fall’s Grade 1 Bank of America Challenge Championship was filled when Mr Victory Six outran his 17-1 odds to win the $52,925 Bank of America Ajax Championship Challenge at Ajax Downs in Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 16.
Ridden by Danielle Dibert and aided by a 12-mph tail wind, Mr Victory Six covered 440 yards in :21.630 while earning a career-best 106 speed index. Renee Wilson prepped the four-year-old
bay gelding for owner Ivy Lane Racing of Milton, Ontario, Canada.
Mr Victory Six’s margin of victory was a neck from Country Boy Deluxe. Mr Victory Six, a bay gelding, was bred in Texas by the late Barry B. Thompson, a longtime breeder whose homebreds included AQHA Supreme Racehorse and 2005 Champion Two-Year-Old Gelding Leading Spirit.
All told, Mr Victory Six has won four of 16 starts, and the $27,521 winner’s share of the Bank
of America Ajax Championship Challenge purse boosted his bankroll to $77,731. His resume includes a second-place finish in last year’s 350-yard, $86,212 Picov Derby at Ajax Downs.
Mr Victory Six is one of two winners from five starters produced by winner Judinell Jo. One of Mr Victory Six’s half siblings, the filly Hollie Jollie, ran second in two stakes at Prairie Meadows from 2009- 10, including the 2010 Altoona Derby-G3.
Country Boy Deluxe (Country Chicks Man- Corona Deluxe) was ridden by Helen Vanek for owner Stan Webb, who also trains the 6-year-old Florida- bred gelding. SM Chicks N Garters (Country Chicks Man-Bullions N Garters) finished third for owner Rick Crispi. Dylan Williams rode the 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding for trainer Renee Wilson. Followed by Mitford (Ivory James-Fitting Celebration) & Jesskissmytexas (Mr Jess Tex-Strawfly Fortune).

SEND ME THIS WAGON
by Michael Compton
Send Me This Wagon overcame a troubled takeoff to prove best over 5 rivals in the Canterbury Distaff Bonus Challenge on Aug. 2. The victory was the filly’s 6th from 11 tries for Randy Hill and Stacy Charette-Hill, who also trains the 4 year old. Winner of the Canterbury Derby a year ago in an effort in which she set the track record (400 yards in :19.583), Send Me This Wagon lost her footing
at the start of the Distaff Bonus Challenge and was brushed by Xoom, who broke just to her inside. Despite the slow beginning, Send Me This Wagon recovered quickly and flashed her usual speed for jockey Jorge Torres. She grabbed the lead and main- tained a clear advantage through the lane. She held sway at the finish, defeating a game Call as Maybe by a neck. Send Me This Wagon stopped the timer for 400 yards in :20.216, earning a speed index of 91. The winner was sent off as the odds-on favorite and is expected to compete in the Distaff Challenge Stakes at Prairie Meadows in September.
“I thought it was over when she fell,”Charette- Hill said. “Her back end slipped coming out of the gate. We are fortunate to have a filly like her.”
Bred in Oklahoma by Michael Pohl, Send Me This Wagon is out of winner Jess Send Candy. The dam of 5 winners from 7 starters, Jess Send Candy has also produced multiple graded stakes winner This Candys Awesome, an earner of $319,823.
Call as Maybe (Mr Jess Perry-None as Easy) came up just short, finishing 2nd under Larren Delome. Charlton Hunt saddled the 3-year-old filly for owner Michael Teel. Xoom (Shazoom-Dashing Dion), with David Pinon aboard, checked in 3rd for owner Paul Treadwell and trainer Edward Hardy. Thirty Six Belles (Tres Seis-Ja Desert Evening), A Priceless Gal (Feature Mr Jess-A Southern Gal) and Dreamwideopen (Feature Mr Jess-This Dreams Flying) followed. R Diva scratched.
NCQHRA Futurity
EAGLES SPAN
by Michael Compton
Safe to say, trainer Jason Olmstead entered the $42,000 NCQHRA Futurity at Canterbury Park on Aug. 9 with a strong hand. Olmstead saddled 5 of the 7 runners in the 350-yard dash, so it should come as little surprise that he swept the top two placings with winner Eagles Span and runner-up Divas Candy Girl.
Eagles Span finished 3rd in his trial with a bad trip, but bounced back with a top effort in the main event. Ridden by Cody Smith, Eagles Span bobbled at the start and raced in 3rd position early. He dueled gamely to the wire and, in a 3-horse photo finish, defeated stablemate Divas Candy Girl and jockey Ry Ekleberry by a head, stopping the timer in :17.949 over a sealed racetrack for a 93 speed index.
Divas Candy Girl (Spit Curl Jess-Some Kinda Diva) just missed for owner Thomas Scheckel. It was just another nose back to 3rd-place finisher, Jerry Oxner’s Effortlessly Strut (Oak Tree Special-Expect Magic), trained by Randall Weidner and piloted by Dale Beaty.
Owned by Bill and Tom Maher, Eagles Span picked up the $21,000 winner’s share of the purse, lifting his bankroll to $110,993 and improving his lifetime record to 6-4-1-1. It was the 2nd stakes win for the sorrel colt. He also captured the Mystic Lake Futurity at Canterbury Park in July.
Bred in Texas by Entrust RT Ser Inc. and FBO Tiffin, Eagles Span is the top earner out of Tiny First Effort, who captured 3 graded stakes in her career including the 2001 Southern California Derby-G1 en route to earnings of $445,393. The mare is the dam of 18 winners and 3 stakes winners from 27 starters, and her progeny have banked more than $500,000.
Cartel Dakota (Favorite Cartel-ND Bunny
Jet), Such An Easy Chick (Such Easy Cash-Crazy Kwik Chick), Expensive Paint Job (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Deedashing) & Bad Phase (Carters Cartel- Girls Eye Too) followed. CJB Teller Cyclone , Hopes Beauty & V OS Filo scratched.
