The success of the Doc’s Jack Frost/ Prissy Cline cross is reinforced by their foal Deputy Doc. This 1973 gelding earned AQHA Superior in Youth Western Pleasure with 121 youth points and 37 open points earning a youth and open ROM. His points were earned in western pleasure, reining, hunt seat, western riding, showmanship and western horsemanship.
A BARREL RACING PHENOMENON
When Kristie Peterson bought a rank 2-year-old colt in 1989 for $400, it set in motion a phenomenal barrel racing run in the Woman’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). Kristie and her horse earned four WPRA World Championships (1994, 1996, 1997, 1998) and five consecutive National Finals Rodeo average titles (1994-1998). In addition, by winning such barrel racing aged events as the Old Fort Days Derby, they earned in excess of $1.5 million. The horse is French Flash Hawk or “Bozo” as he is known by his adoring fans. Bozo was voted the AQHA/PRCA Horse of the Year four times (1996-1997) and the WPRA Barrel Horse of the Year in 1995. Bozo is by Sun Frost.

2-time Champion Sire Lightning Bar (above) is the sire of Doc Bar, the sire of Doc’s Jack Frost, the sire of Sun Frost.
              Flandreau, South Dakota. Casey’s Charm
is by Champion Tiny Circus and out of the Loiseau foundation mare Casey’s Ladylove by Casey’s Poco. Casey’s Ladylove was a show mare for the Loiseau family and then entered the broodmare band. James decided he wanted to breed for speed. He was friends with Pat Cowan, who was training a horse to race named Laughing Boy by Lightning Bar.
The Laughing Boy/Casey’s Ladylove cross produced six foals and three starters/ROM, including 1971 South Dakota Bred Derby win- ner Frenchman’s Fox. Frenchmans Luck, an ROM racing daughter of this cross, produced Frenchmans Jet, winner of the 1978 Central Stakes Fair Derby and South Dakota Derby.
Frenchman’s Lady was one of the unshown/ unraced daughters by Laughing Boy and out of Casey’s Ladylove. Frenchman’s Lady produced Lord Alamitos, who was purchased by Bill
and Debbie Myers of St. Onge, South Dakota. They took this horse home, raced him and won to earn a AA rating on the track. Then, he hit the arena and became an NCHA money earner. Then, he was used on barrels.
The Myers liked this horse so much, they went back to buy the foals out of Frenchman’s
Lady each year. The last one they bought was Frenchmans Guy by Sun Frost. They brought Frenchmans Guy home with high hopes, but an eye injury prevented his show career from developing like they had planned.
Frenchmans Guy has an interesting pedigree pattern to Lightning Bar. Frenchmans Guy is by Sun Frost, a great great grandson of Lightning Bar. Frenchmans Guy is out of Frenchman’s Lady, by Laughing Boy by Lightning Bar. This gives Frenchmans Guy a breeding pattern of 4x2 to Lightning Bar and a breeding pattern
of 4x4x2 to Lightning Bar and his full sister Bardella. This gives his pedigree a collateral linebreeding to this full brother and sister.
The eye injury didn’t hurt the breeding career of Frenchmans Guy, as he has become an all-around sire and is now the Equi-Stat #2 leading sire of barrel racing money earners. His foals have earned over $8 million in bar- rel racing. Some of his recent money winners include Guys French Jet ($242,282), a 2015 NFR qualifier and the 2014 AQHA Senior Reserve World Champion Barrel Horse; Guys Six Pack To Go ($202,706), an NFR qualifier after wins at rodeos like the California Rodeo at Salinas; Frenchmans Future ($188,777),
The Louiseau Foundation mare Casey’s Ladylove (below) was a show mare for the family before entering the broodmare band. Casey’s Ladylove is the dam of Casey’s Charm and the grandam of French Flash Hawk.
