watched the race, about halfway between the start and the finish line.
“When she went by me, she looked like she was about a length in front, but I was really questioning if she had won,” Adams said. “They had extra televisions set up, and as I was walking down toward the winner’s circle, they never took the camera off of her. That’s why I thought maybe she did win it.”
R Cowgirl began her career at Remington, going a perfect four for four that included
the April 29 Victoria Ennis Memorial and
the June 3 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1. In her first race at Fair Meadows, R Cowgirl won her July 7 trial to the Speedhorse Paint & Appalossa Futurity in the fastest qualifying time.
“I feel so blessed to have this filly,” Adams said.
R Cowgirl comes from an Appaloosa family that Adams has nourished for years, though he breeds and owns Paints as well. Last year he campaigned Paint World Champion Signs Of Livewire, also trained by Keener.
“I probably have more Paint mares than I do Appaloosa mares, but I love having both breeds,” Adams said.
R Cowgirl’s family was responsible for Adams’ re-entry into racehorse ownership. He bought the Appaloosa mare Perfect Intention, R Cowgirl’s third dam. Perfect Intention is the all-time leading Appaloosa producer by racehorse earnings, with $478,505.50, and a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of Fame. Her offspring included Appaloosa Champion You R My Sunshine, another horse Adams raced.
The first two foals Adams bred out of Perfect Intention have also gone on to become
good producers. The first one, Jess Streakin, ranks 11th on the list of leading Appaloosa broodmares by progeny earnings, and the second one, R Ms Kitty, is 15th on the list.
R Ms Kitty is the second dam of R Cowgirl. Winner of the 2007 Americana Appaloosa Futurity, R Ms Kitty is also an Appaloosa Champion and a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of Fame.
Adams bred R Cowgirl in Oklahoma from homebred Paint This Kitty, a daughter of R Ms Kitty by PYC Paint Your Wagon QH. Paint This Kitty, who won the 2014 Colors of the Wind Paint & Appaloosa Stakes and was a Champion that season, has produced five winners in six starters, including 2021 Appaloosa Horse of the Year Paint Your Lips.
Keener-trained Mighty Mocha APHA (Painted Turnpike-Mighty Chicka) finished second for jockey Roman Cruz. Jay Ross owns the gelding, who won the March 25 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile.
Triple L Xpress APHA (CRM Livewire- Maggie Redmond), also trained by Keener, finished third. Jesus Salazar rode the colt for owner Planefun LLC. Triple L Xpress won the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity on April 29.
Completing the field were JS Apollitical Chick APHA (Mr Apollitical Dash- Imachickenkicker), BP The Hero APHA (One Valiant Hero-BP Baileys Success), Pevs Wire To Wire APHA (CRM Livewire-PV Queen Bee Candy), The Nine One Eight APHA (Painted Turnpike-Sayonara), V Golden Game APHA (CRM Livewire-Game Hi), Ivory Turnpike Two APHA (Ivory James-High Class Turnpike), and Ms Nikki Sixx APHA (Im A Fancy PYC-Bye Bye Jenny).
