Separate Butallright ’s winning connections include owner Raul Del Fierro Licon, trainer Samuel Valdivia and jockey L. Salvador Martinez
trials on June 8, where Separate Butallright won by 2-lengths as the fourth-fastest qualifier.
Drawn on the outside in the final and with Martinez again in the irons, Separate Butallright popped out of the gate on top. She drifted into the middle of the track and then pulled away to win wire-to-wire by 1 1/2-lengths in :17.648 for 350 yards as the 7-1 fourth choice. She posted a 99 speed index.
“She’s a beautiful filly—very, very special,” said Valdivia. “She’s the boss of the barn. She’s been the boss since the first time we’ve run her.”
Valdivia trains Separate Butallright for owner Raul Del Fierro Licon of Mexico.
“I met him a couple of years ago,” Valdivia said. “He told me that someday he was going to give me a chance, and I’m glad that things worked out the way that they did. This is what we need—new owners. I want to thank the owner for giving me a chance.”
Valdivia is doing very well for Licon. In addition to Separate Butallright, Valdivia trains Vintage Candy for the owner. Vintage Candy won the April 22 Laico Bird Stakes-RG3 at Remington.
Valdivia got his start working for some
of the best horsemen in the business, and he recalls seeing Dash For Cash set a track record at Los Alamitos. He worked for Paul Jones’ father, as well as D. Wayne Lukas when Lukas trained Quarter Horses.
“I see Wayne at Hot Springs every year, and we talk Quarter Horses,” Valdivia said.
Licon purchased Separate Butallright for $15,000 at the 2022 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Cavenaugh Quarter Horses LLC, which bred the filly in Oklahoma, consigned her to the sale.
By Separatist, Separate Butallright is
out of the winning First Down Dash mare Alltherightcurves. The mare has produced 2 winners from 3 starters, the other being Charlies Fast Man, winner of the 2020 Rillito Park Juvenile Challenge. Separate Butallright’s second dam, Lizas Mystique, also produced multiple Champion Catchmeinyourdreams and stakes winner Dreams For Lyndsie. The third dam, Elans Special, won the 1987 All American Futurity-G1. In addition, Elans Special is the third dam of recent Rainbow Derby-G1 winner Sicario V.
Gonzalo Gutierrez rode Dashin Lewee
(Big Lew-The Dashing Attitude) to second for trainer Luz Chavira and owner Janet Martinez. Since being claimed for $10,000 in April,
Dashin Lewee has not finished worse than second, with one of his seconds coming in the June 17 Fair Meadows Juvenile Stakes.
Jeffrey Tyer bred, owns, and trains third- place JT True Grit (Capo De Capi-Redneck Kitty). Roman Cruz piloted the gelding, who has won three trials and also qualified for the Oklahoma Futurity-G2.
Rounding out the field were JT Im
That Boy (TF Im That Guy-Sweet Chico), Acowboywalksintoabar (Flying Cowboy 123-Ajewelindisguise), Preyin And Dashin (Ivory James-Prey), Kas Shes A Sweetchic (Kas Tempting-Jess A Sweet Chic), Ifyouflyin Youwinnin (Flying Cowboy 123-Winning Merlot), and Aurelius (Flying Cowboy 123-Strawfly Sister). SS Cant Touch This was scratched.
