Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1

Dee Keener accomplished a truly rare feat in the July 22 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Fair Meadows. He qualified
seven of the 10 horses and finished first through seventh.
Keener won the race with the only Appaloosa in the field, R Cowgirl, who also was the only undefeated horse in the race. As such, R Cowgirl went off as the 11-10 favorite.
When the gate opened, R Cowgirl broke on top very professionally for jockey James Flores. She zoomed to the front, and though Mighty Mocha closed ground, R Cowgirl never let him get to her, winning wire-to-wire by a nose in :17.692 for 350 yards.
“I was a nervous wreck—I always am,” said Jeff Adams, R Cowgirl’s owner and breeder.
“I felt so much better when it was over. When those horses get on a winning streak, you know they can’t do that forever.”
It definitely wasn’t time for R Cowgirl to lose, though Adams wasn’t sure from where he
