Flashy Hemp Stakes
LRH HEART OF GLASS
Lby Tracy Gantz
RH Heart Of Glass had earned more than
$150,000 and placed in stakes. But that initial stakes victory eluded her until the July 15 Flashy Hemp Stakes at Delta Downs. Favored at 17-10 and ridden by Everardo Rodriguez, LRH Heart Of Glass broke in fifth and moved up quickly. She won by 1/2-length in :16.894 for 330 yards.
LRH Heart Of Glass began racing for her breeders, Jetty and Donald Lemaire, and was claimed for $5,000 in her second start for owner LH Horse Racing LLC. She began racing in Carlos Campos’ name in her fourth start on July 26, 2021. LRH Heart Of Glass ran second in the 2023 Mother’s Day Stakes and 2022 Audubon Stakes and third in the 2022 Louisiana Champions Day Derby-RG3. Josue Huitron trains the 4-year-old filly.
The Lemaires bred LRH Heart Of Glass in Louisiana from their unraced homebred LRH Heartofanoak. The mare has produced three winners in four starters, including LRH Grant James, who finished third in this year’s Mardi Gras Derby.
Mark Langford’s homebred Featured Prospect (Prospect To The Top-Sheza Fast Feature) finished second. Guadalupe Lucio Jr. rode the 5-year-old mare for trainer Janessa Muniz. Featured Prospect earlier this year ran third in the Billy Montgomery Stakes.
Mike Inscore’s homebred Miss Pilotos Train (BP Wagon Train-Pilotos Fast Dash) ran third for jockey Ricardo Hernandez Jr. Ray Robbins trains the 3-year-old filly, who had won three of nine previous races.
Completing the field were Emorylee (Freighttrain B-Dashin Bambam), Mrs Kennedy TLC (The Louisiana Cartel-Time For The Senator), Louisiana Tequila (The Louisiana Cartel-Newport Lily), TF Runaway Kate (Sir Runaway Dash-Xo Kate), and Never Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Never Neutral). Freighttrain Game was scratched.
Flying Breed Stakes
BONAFYDE
Bby John Moorehouse
onafyde prevailed in a photo finish with JJ Heza
Fast Dash Jr to claim winners honors in the $60,000 Flying Breed Stakes held July 15 at Delta Downs.
Bonafyde got bumped at the start emerging from the 4-hole, but jockey Noe Suarez recovered and the gelding came flying. He was second going into the stretch and then beat JJ Heza Fast Dash Jr to the wire by a head. The 220-yard trip took :11.989 and generated a 90 speed index, with an 8 mph headwind present.
Owned and trained by Santiago Garcia, Bonafyde scored his second straight win of the 2023 campaign and his fourth overall victory in 15 lifetime starts. This marked his first win in stakes company, and his stakes debut, for that matter.
The $36,000 payday increased his total bankroll to $89,880. Bonafyde also paid off handsomely at the betting window, going off at 12-1 odds at post time. He was purchased for $15,000 in the 2020 LQHBA Yearling Sale by his owner Santiago Garcia. Bonafyde has raced exclusively in his home state of Louisiana.
J and J Stables LLC owns second place finisher JJ Heza Fast Dash Jr (Heza Fast Dash-Forever Real), who scored a pair of stakes victories last season–one of them graded. The gelding is trained by Jose Carrizales and had Ricardo Hernandez Jr. in the irons.
Mighty Pocket Rocket (Mighty Corona-Raise the Sky), an 11-year-old gelding making his 40th career start, hit the board in third for owner Tyler Langford and trainer Janessa Muniz. Leonardo Rodriguez had the riding assignment.
The remaining order of finish was Five Bar Presence (Five Bar Cartel-Provocative Presence), Tee Britt (Tee Cos-Special Britt), Freighttrain Game (Freighttrain B-Game Snowlady), Ja Zooms (First Prize Doc–Zavona), and Hez Pretty Fast (Heza Fast Dash-Not Perry Pretty).
Live Oak Stakes
LOUIE B QUICK
Mby John Moorehouse
aking his 21st career start, Louie B Quick
notched his first-ever stakes victory on July 15 at Delta Downs, prevailing in the $60,000 Live Oak Stakes. This time, the gelding had no equal. Louie
B Quick broke well from the 2-gate, was running
a solid second at the first call and going into the stretch, then drew clear during the final yards to win the race by 1 1/2-lengths. Gilbert Ortiz was aboard for the 870-yard trip, completed in :46.291 for a 92 speed index.
Owner/trainer Paul Rigdon banked a $36,000 payday that pushed Louie B Quick’s lifetime bankroll into six figures at $117,237.
Louie B Quick is a four-year-old gelding who reached the winner’s circle for the sixth time in 21 starts. Louie B Quick had entered black type in his most recent prior out, finishing second in the Virgil Bond Stakes on June 10 at Delta Downs.
Jim and Natalie Montgomery bred Louie B Quick out of Louisiana Lace, a 2006 Thoroughbred mare. Foaled in Louisiana, Louie B Quick has raced exclusively in his home state to date.
Rogues Fast Sister (Heza Fast Rogue-T Frere’ Sister TB) had the early lead and was in front by two lengths going into the stretch but faded and finished second. Vickie Vick is the owner, Gary Mason is the trainer, and Ricardo Hernandez Jr. had the riding assignment.
Freakin Patriot Dash (Game Patriot-Freakin Dash) hit the board in third for Areli Gutierrez. The Joel Huitron trainee had Arnulfo Gutierrez in the irons.
