Having Fun scored the first stakes victory of
his career on July 16, taking the $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile held at Ruidoso Downs.
The race was held for the 10 fastest non-qualifiers for the Rainbow Futurity. That Grade 1 event, won by Dark NME in a record-setting performance, headlined this card.
RJ Having Fun completed his 400-yard run in Rainbow Futurity trials in :20.171, putting him sixth on the Juvenile qualifying ladder. He was a bit quicker in this stakes, covering the same distance in :19.851 for an 88 speed index to win the race by 3/4-lengths. RJ Having Fun ran through a 10 mph headwind.
Owned by Josefina Guzman and Corinna Sosa, the gelding reached the winner’s circle for the second time in five lifetime starts. RJ Having Fun brought the $44,094 first-place share of the purse, increasing his cumulative earnings to $69,805.
Toby Keeton trains RJ Having Fun, who notched that aforementioned third-place finish in the Laico Bird Stakes-RG3 at Remington Park back in April. Alejandro Medina drew the riding assignment.
Rito Sosa bred RJ Having Fun out of Snow Clouds, a 2004 mare.
