Fetal Mouth, Lip, and Mandible
▪ Macroglossia is defined as an unusual protuberance of the tongue.
▪ It is most commonly associated with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome and
Down syndrome.
▪ Macroglossia can be difficult to differentiate from epignathus, which is a mostly solid-appearing oral teratoma.
▪ Teratomas most often contain complex tissue, while the enlarged tongue of macroglossia will be completely solid.
