Concept of Descriptive Essay
There are two classic approaches to descriptive essays, namely
personal essays and formal descriptions.
a. Personal Essay
Here the writer needs to describe an experience using feelings
and responses. This work is able to evoke empathy in the reader. It can
also be unclear and disorganized. If you want to write a good personal
essay, you should try to focus only on those aspects that best describe
the author's own experiences. Don't shy away from clear, compelling
language in this type of assignment. Some examples of personal essay
topics might be:
Describes the experience of swimming in the blue sea in summer
Describes the author's favorite films and their impact on the author
Reflecting on birthdays and all the things that have shaped the writer
in the past
b. Formal Description
This type of descriptive writing resembles an argumentative
essay. The main goal should be to communicate a series of key points or
describe something in detail—with a clear structure. Instead of focusing
on the author's own experience, it is necessary to use certain categories
of information to give the most complete picture of what the author is
describing. This approach can also be appealing, especially when the
