The Shade Garden –
Following Cues from the Natural Landscape
My garden, which my husband and I started in
2000, was entirely full sun. Our 3.75 acre “paradise”
was almost a blank slate with 2 Norway Maples,
2 American Hollies, a couple Yews, and an Arborvitae
hedge. Before rain gardens were trending, we carved out
depressions in our landscape to collect rainwater from our
roof – allowing it to infiltrate. (continued on page 16)
