o Size of farms affects upland development strategy
by farmers.
It is observed that tree crop production is not possible
in small sized farms and in farms where farmers major
concern is subsistence needs
Farm size also affects the length of follow cycle
Insecurity of land tenure status of upland farmer’s
influences types of crops raised and farm development
strategy. In such areas, farmers prefer to grow short
rotation crops which promote soil erosion and they shy
away with establishment of permanent structures and
soil conservation practices.
Accessibility influences the kinds of crops preferred to
be grown by upland farmers. Less accessible/remote
upland areas are generally subsistence-oriented while
those near markets are more cash-oriented. (Sajise,
1982).
