                                   = 1123.98-  257.76   = 280.99 – 257.76 = 23.24

                                           4

                           ESS =  TSS – tSS

                                  = 27.03 – 23.24  = 3.79

               STEP 4.Compute the MS (Mean Squares) for the different SVs (sources of
               variation)

               tMS=tSS=  23.24    =  5.83

                       tdf           4

               EMS  = ESS   =   3.79   =   0.25

                          Edf          15

               STEP 5. Determine the computed F value and make statistical conclusions
               by comparing it with the tabular F value.

               Fc  = tMS =  5.81   =  23.24

                     EMS      0.25

               As could be found in the points for the distribution of F using tdf of 4 andEdf
               of 15, the tabular F value is 3.06 and 469 for 5% and 1% level of significance
               respectively.
               The result therefore is highly significant ( **) which means that the
               application of varying rates of Nitrogen significantly affected the yield of rice
               and further indicates that one or more pairs of treatment means are different
               from each other.

               STEP 6. Construct the ANOVA table and fill all the computed values as
               shown in the ANOVA table below.

                                                                         F- VALUE
