Hands-On Exercises 8. Anatomical features of hardwood species

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with anatomical features of hard wood
samples.

Learning Outcomes – Upon completion of this exercise you should be able to:
- determine anatomical features of hardwood wood samples and distinguish the difference
between softwood.
- identify wood structure using the basic techniques for describing and sampling woods
- classify wood samples according to common names, scientific name and family name

Instruction: Illustrate the anatomical features of hardwood species, identify and label the parts
