Research Committee Report Dawn Westfall, PT and Abraham Lee, PT – Co-Chairs
The Research Committee is growing! We are very excited about the new members that have joined the committee over the last year. The expansion of the committee has given us fresh ideas and allowed us to pursue things that were not previously possible. One of our most notable achievements is the start of our quarterly Research Newsletter. The newsletter is designed to share information about research activities relevant to physical therapy practice in the state of Ohio as well around the world. Our initial aims are to:
1. Make the members of OPTA more aware of what research has been conducted at state and national levels, and
2. Promote research collaboration among clinicians and academicians who have similar research interests. Watch your email inbox for our next edition coming this fall.
Helping clinicians and academicians to connect with one another was a primary need determined by our Needs Assessment survey. Thank you
to everyone who participated in the survey. In addition to the newsletter, the Research Committee is planning on establishing more of a presence at our state conferences in an effort to fulfill this gap. Please stop by our table at Optimize 2018 to share your ideas and research interests.
The Research Committee is dedicated to providing small grants to researchers in the state of Ohio. We have been exploring ways to raise more funds to this end. For the next grant cycle we will be using crowdfunding to obtain donations from any party wishing to support research in Ohio. A sharable link will be provided in the near future via email. Please feel free to pass the link along to your social media connections.
The current grant cycle is well underway. Each project is reviewed by a team of peers to determine the quality of a study. The top projects will be awarded funding. Winners will be recognized at Optimize 2018.
