The Southwest District has again enjoyed a plethora of events over the past several months, and this is all due (in no small part) to all the active members in the district including our PT/PTA programs .
On Aug . 15, we were lucky enough to have Ashli Gauthier, PT, DPT speak to 20 professionals at Mercy Fairfield. This was a great and interactive class. The first half we were treated to a lesson on the history and theory behind Pilates . Meanwhile, the second half of the class was dedicated to a lab and Pilates class where participants were treated to going through a mat class and given chances to think of how to integrate Pilates into their own practices .
Then on Sept . 6, the students at Mount St . Joseph coordinated a PT Pub Night at Cabana on the River, which was very well attended by over 50 students, PTs, and PTAs . It was a beautiful night with a view of the sunset over the river . Attendees were able to mingle with each other, play cornhole, and enjoy food and drinks .
As we’ve done in the past, we went to the Freestore Foodbank on Oct . 19 for our PT Day
of Service . We had about 25 people attend, and
it was largely successful . We helped to prepare meals that would be packaged and sent to senior citizens in need . Unfortunately, there was an issue
with the rice that was in the warehouse . The packages were damaged and not safe for consumption . Thus, we had to stop early . Despite this, we were still able to prepare 200 Senior Boxes .
Then on Oct . 29, we were able to see the beautiful new facility at the University of Cincinnati where Lizanne Mulligan, PT, PhD reviewed the anatomy of the upper extremity . Then we walked over to the cadaver lab where several students gave us a hands-on lesson with the cadavers . It’s always a great review, and I’m always amazed by the knowledge shared and the beauty of the human body .
Finally, at the end of the year in November, the district board members met to plan events for 2020 . We are very excited to have several different events coming up . Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming events on our social media pages or the OPTA email blasts .
In summary, our district wouldn’t be as great as it is without all the hard work done by the PT/PTA programs or the active members of the District Board . I want to take a little time to thank and welcome our new board members including Alyssa Taylor, Caitlin DiNardo, Amy Stamper, Jon Mathis, Katie Mersich, Dina Tanga, Kelsey Biller, and Angela Onyekanne .
