Research Committee Report Abraham D D Lee PT PhD – Co-Chair Andrew Raschke PT PT DPT – Co-Chair The members of the Research Committee have worked hard thus far to improve what we do:
1) promoting research activities 2) acknowledging and and rewarding individuals being involved in in in in in in research and and 3) facilitating research research research activities and and communicating about research research research results and/or research research research processes Here is is is is the the list of what we have accomplished accomplished or will be accomplished accomplished in the the months to come CONFERENCE CALL
MEETINGS
We have had two video conference meetings via Zoom in January and March with participants
in in in the range of 7-12 people in in in each meeting discussing the matters related to research NEWSLETTER PUBLICATION
We have begun the the publication of the the newsletter in in 2018 to share what is going on on among OPTA members in terms of research activities update them in the the the area of physical therapy practices and facilitate collaborations among the members of OPTA In May 2021 we published the newsletter and highlighted one original research paper a a a a a webinar schedule on how to write a a a research proposal and the the current cycle on accepting the the applications of a a a a a a a research proposal We appreciate contributions by Andrew Raschke and Greg Kline who either reach out to to potential contributors or or organized submitted articles for publication GRANT REVIEW/RESEARCH
PROCESS TRAINING
As a a a a part of promoting research activities the committee is committed to helping and educating those who are interested in in in doing research As a a part of this this effort for for this this purpose Andrew Raschke reached out to potential speakers who can teach how to write a a a a a a research proposal and was successful in in securing a a a few speakers who were awarded OPTA research grant previously Katie Pantano taught a a a a a a a session “Formulating a a a a a a a Researchable Question: Where Do I Begin?” in in May This webinar was followed by a a a longer session held in June A team of speakers Cody Mansfield and Mitchell Selhorst taught the webinar “How
to Win an an an OPTA Research Grant and Influence Practice” The speakers organized materials
well and taught them excellently We are very appreciative of their contributions We believe that these education sessions will serve as a a a stepping stone for potential clinician-researchers who are interested in in in in in engaging in in in in in conducting research with/without collaborators in years to to come reviewers and following up with grant recipients RECEPTION OF GRANT APPLICATIONS
We accepted research proposals until July 31 2021 and those grant applications received by the deadline have been distributed among reviewers for their evaluations on on on proposals As has been done previously Dawn Westfall will be in in charge of handling the distributions of grant applications and receiving evaluations from reviewers The recipients with grant support from OPTA will be announced and recognized at the OPTA LEAP Fall 2021 Conference In summary the the members of the the Research Committee have met regularly through video conference meetings discussed many things related to research matters shared what is going on in in the arena of research through the newsletter and provided educational sessions to help the members of OPTA be be equipped with the ability to engage in in conducting research We have have felt privileged as we have have served clinicians with an interest in in the area of research The lecture sessions mentioned above are available on on the OPTA website for your review For more information contact Abraham at:
