FEMA Awards Grant Money tIo Ohio Fire Departments
n separate announcements, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), awarded grant monies to the Springfield Township Fire Department and Olmsted Township Fire Department.
The nearly $200 thousand grant ($198,273) awarded to Springfield Township Fire
Department comes from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program and it will be used by the department for safety upgrades and operations.
The Olmsted Township Fire Department was the recipient of a $104,143 grant. Olmsted Township Fire Department will use the money to replace outdated self- contained breathing apparatus, face pieces, rescue air packs and air bottles.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program supports fire departments across the country to ensure the safety of both first-responders and the public. The program provides funds for supplemental training, upgrades to protective equipment, facility modifications and other supplies that protect firefighters and first-responders in moments of crisis.
This year a total of 382 fire departments received funding, 20 of which were in the state of Ohio.
