Practice Chair Report Alan J. Frame, PT, DPT, OCS - Chair
I have had a lot of discussion lately regarding the way individuals are managing all the changes with third party administrators . We all know this adds to admin time and the ability to complete work in a timely manner . The APTA has put forward a small step-by-step link to help with those trying to deal with this topic and it is available at http://www.apta.org/UMToolkit/UM-Checklist/ .
For therapists who are involved with Home Health
I also strongly encourage you to review the new “Proposed Home Health Rule” from CMS. Per the recent “PT in Motion”, the plans are accompanied by other changes that include allowing maintenance therapy to be furnished by physical therapist assistants (PTAs) and occupational therapy assistants (OTAs), providing a payment "add on" for rural home health care, and adopting an APTA-supported "notice of admission" requirement to avoid duplicate billing . The new provisions, which include a 1.3% payment increase, are included in CMS’ proposed rule released on July 11 . A full link to the article is available at http://www.apta.org/PTinMotion/News/2019/7/12/ HomeHealth/?_zs=l4ffV1&_zl=w2R06 .
I am humbled to have been appointed as the Nominating Committee Chair for the OPTA . I am thankful for the ground roads set in place for the Nominating Committee by the current committee members, and former chair, and current Director III, Dr . Kim Doolittle-Koran .
APTA has also recognized Ohio as one of the states on the front side of improved workers’ compensation programs . They have stated that while the overall injury rates and frequency have been declining, the percent of claims with physical medicine involvement have increased . Ohio BWC has now mandated 60
days of conservative care before the authorization
of lumbar fusion surgery as well as noting increased nonsurgical physical therapy referrals and decreased surgical referrals .
Continue to utilize the APTA website and its resources to improve your practice .

Nominating Committee Report Scott Euype, PT, DPT, MHS - Chair
OPTA has a strong future for its succession of leadership, with the current Board of Directors, Delegate representation to the APTA House of Delegates, an excellent Committee structure, a vocal Student Assembly SIG, and a passionate Early Professional SIG . The new L .I .F .E . Series Leadership Academy, promises to develop leadership skills and strategies that will facilitate the promotion of our vision in transforming society for years to come .
It is my goal to engage our current leaders; and
the leaders of the future to continue in moving
our profession, the OPTA, and the APTA forward for years to come . I am hopeful to be able to bridge my experiences on the APTA Nominating committee
to the OPTA, allowing for a streamlined process for candidate recommendations, and for an enhanced vetting process of our candidates . I promise to be open to your suggestions and ideas, and to present a slate of potential leaders that will represent each OPTA Member to the highest professional level .
Thank you, again, for this opportunity to serve our great association .
