CORE Construction
SOMERTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT SOLAR
INSTALLATION
The Somerton Elementary School District Solar Installation project included the new construction of a 1,567
kilowatts of photovoltaic solar array system at various schools located in Somerton, Arizona. The photovoltaic solar
array system functions as a renewable and clean energy source by generating an estimated 2.3 million kilowatt-
hours of electricity per year through 6,600 solar panels for Desert Sonora Elementary, Orange Grove Elementary,
Tierra Del Sol Elementary, Valle De Encanto Elementary, and Somerton Middle School. The photovoltaic array
system was constructed on 10 carports and eight shade structures utilizing concrete caissons foundations with
wide flange steel and galvanized purlin structural frames. The project also featured asphalt paving and grounding
and bonding of electrical circuits. Due to CORE’s construction efforts, the Somerton Elementary School District
Solar Installation project now generates approximately 60% of the electrical needs of the schools.
