orientation of my emotions before I entered the building. I worked out that if I thought
of some of the people whom I knew would be there and thought of some question to
ask them to do with their family or business, then I would soon be feeling more at
ease as I began to get positive feedback from them.
In all my pastoral ministry Bev was a great support. She seemed to have an easy
way with people and everyone seemed to love her. She was also a very practical
person and loved looking after the manse gardens, and taking an active, sometimes
leading, part in the practical activities of the church. I often used to think that I had
been the one who was ‘called’ to this ministry, yet she seemed to take to it far more
easily than I did.
Bev tells me that many of the church people said to her that I was one of the best
pastors they had had. I still find this hard to believe.
