Bird sanctuary
Hong Kong is a major stopover site along the "East Asian- Australasian Flyway" of migratory birds and a refuelling station for 50,000 to 80,000 migratory water birds every year.
Mai Po Nature Reserve
v One of Asia's most important conservation areas for wildlife, with traditional shrimp ponds, freshwater ponds, mangroves and reed beds;
v About 400 species of birds are recorded, with globally threatened species such as the Black-faced Spoonbill, Nordmann’s Greenshank and Spoon-billed Sandpiper finding sanctuary there.
