Tactical parking on the street
Always tactically park when responding to a building or residence. Avoid parking directly in front of the
building you’re responding to. This applies to both the same side of the street or across the street, just
don’t do it. See Diagram A for proper tactical parking and Diagram B for bad parking positions. What
you’ll notice in Diagram A, is that you have the nose of your vehicle as cover if you get out. This gives
you cover until you can reach the back of your vehicle. Additionally, if you need to use the building next
to you, you can reach it from the rear of your vehicle. You’ll notice when you look at Diagram B, that you
don’t have cover from any of those positions.

House numbers typically go up by for numbers. For example, 200, 204, 208, etc. One side of the street is
odd numbers, and the other is even numbers. Remember to check on scene one block ahead. Once you
arrive, also quickly scan vehicles near the home you are responding to. If someone is sitting in a vehicle,
quickly figure out what they are doing and whether they are involved in the call for service.
