Suspicious vehicle
When responding to suspicious vehicles, consider the way you position your vehicle. If the occupant,
typically in the driver’s seat, responds by exiting and firing, your vehicle’s position will affect how you
respond. In Diagram A, you’ll notice the patrol vehicle is just past the driver’s side and angled. Image the
yellow arrow is the flight path of bullets coming your way. In Diagram A, when the officer gets out, they
already have cover as opposed to the patrol vehicle positioning in Diagram B. In Diagram B, when the
officer gets out, they’ll need to get to the back of the vehicle for any decent cover.
