                         Subject + was/were + Complement



                         Affirmative                      Question                       Negative

                 She/He was smart.              Was she/he smart?              She/he was not smart.

               Note:
               Contradicted negative:

                       did not ----- didn’t
               Negative question:

                       Did I not work hard? Or Didn’t I work hard?

               Other example:
                  -  He was an excellent pilot.


                  -  I graduated high school in 2016.

                  -  Did she know what we did last night?

                  -  We didn’t have time for lunch because we were in a hurry.


                  -  Kayla sang the song very beautifully.
