Examples:
• Rani, please feed the cat.
• Somebody, clean the whiteboard, please.
2. Prohibitions or negative imperatives are constructed with 'do not' (or 'don't)
Examples:
• Don't be afraid.
• Don't come late.
Imperatives can also follow if clauses. The sentence "If you walk, add 5 minutes of jumping rope
or stair stepping." shows that the imperative comes after an if clause. It is used to order or suggest
in a conditional sentence. Read the following examples.
1. If you want to keep healthy, exercise regularly.
2. If you are eating out, order healthy food.
3. If you want to reduce the injury during exercising, don't skip warming up and stretching before
exercising.
Remember: An 'if clause' is in present form.
