Annular solar eclipse 26 December 2019
TAMIL NADU
The ASE 2019 campaign started a month before the day of the eclipse with the various organisation including, VIBHA, BSS, TNSF, etc., and individual science communicators.
Three State-level camps were organised in the Tamil Nadu before the ASE day at Coimbatore and Madurai on 7 and 8 December 2019, and at Thanjavur on 13 and 14 December 2019. About 300 RPs were trained in these camps. Each of these participants organised from one to about ten local level orientation programmes and motivated a large number of people to watch the eclipse safely.
A special attempt was made to reach out to the media, and a Media Orientation programme on ASE was arranged at the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre in Chennai on 21 December 2019. Twenty working journalists from different media houses attended the programme.
The media coverage on the Annular Solar Eclipse was excellent due to the press meet in different places, namely 21 December in Chennai; 22 December in Trichy; 23 December in Madurai; and 24 December in Erode.
The local team in each district went with a few press briefing, and the momentum was created across the state to witness the celestial
