PLANTING
"The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To
plant a garden is to feed not just a body, but the soul" Alfred Austin
After all the planning, and all the preparation, you're finally ready to plant your
garden. Almost. You'll need to choose the plants you want to grow, and decide
whether you'll be starting seeds indoors or outdoors, or using seedlings, or even a
combination of both.
Choosing the Right One
There are several different approaches to choosing the plants that you'll be
growing in your organic garden. Yes, you want to grow produce that you'll enjoy
eating. Do you want to grow crops which are readily available and cheap to buy in
your area? Would you rather experiment with hard to find varieties or grow
crops which are expensive?
Once you have made a
list of what you like,
decide how much time
and effort these plants
will require. Consider
how much work
you're willing to do
and whether you have
someone to help you.
Then research which
of these plants will do
well in your particular
conditions. Consider
your climate,
topography, soil
conditions, and water availability.
Then you can decide if you want to choose compatible plants, or adding trap
plants and insect attractants.
