P. 25
CSF & PRRS
Nothing to report.
Raw Pork Imports from PRRS Positive Countries
SAPPO has requested that training of inspectors at major ports importing pork needs to be done as a matter of urgency. Refresher course for Durban & Cape Town and a new course for Gqeberha.
This is to ensure that inspectors can tell the difference between “safe” products from those that need processing.
Correspondence from DALRRD on the matter is tardy (FMD?)
Live Pig Imports
Nothing to report – SA does not allow imports of live pigs at the moment and for the foreseeable future.
Pig Compartments
3 new units (1 weaner & 2 Grower units) have been registered recently.
There are discussions with DALRRD to authorise private veterinarians to audit compartments are state vets are not able to fulfil this function adequately, a possibility is to include this with a Pork 360 accreditation audit.
Disease Surveillance
Passive Disease surveillance APP is functioning well.
Registration of farms on WoP has picked up, mostly because re-imbursement of compartment laboratory fees is dependent on farms being registered for Passive surveillance purposes.
