it?" Well, here's why: Going to school and learning things
is so much more than just studying specific subjects and all
their little details. It is also about improving your skills at
learning itself. Every time you get that brain going, think
hard, burn in few new neurons connections and finally
grasp a concept, you have done more than simply learn the
concept itself. You have actually exercised that brain of
yours and developed and improved your overall ability to
grasp any subject. You have gotten better at learning.
Why is this important? We have discussed how important it
is to learn all through your life, so simply put, the better
you are at it, the better your life is going to be. And I can
assure you that as you navigate through your life as a
working person, there will be plenty of times where you
will be called upon to learn new things and grasp new
subjects. If you are very good at it, not only will your life at
work be more enjoyable but you'll also probably have more
opportunities for advancement.
So all schools must make the effort to ensure that this very
important concept is visited and reinforced to kids all
through their education. Not only will school kids learn
more and learn faster, but they'll have less to complain
about!
On Fear and Courage, and when Fear is Used as a
Weapon
I hear all time about how wrong fear mongering is, and
generally I agree but there seems to be some confusion out
there regarding the definition of fear. I once worked with a
group of Vietnam era ex-Navy SEALs. These guys were
the Real Deal, had the scars to prove it, and they knew a
little something about putting themselves in harm's way —
and surviving to tell the tale.
