Foundation Depth Determination Consideration in Shallow Foundation Design

i. Pad footing should not be constructed on fill ground.
• Must be deep enough to exclude undermining by flowing water

• Must be deep enough for stability

• Must be deep enough to avoid swelling and shrinkage effects due to water Fill

• Depth of shallow foundation practiced by JKR is 1.5m ≤ D ≤ 3.0m
iii. Shallow foundation shall not be constructed on partially cut and fill ground

Notes:
Fill Cut OGL : Original Ground Level
PL : Platform Level

iv. Shallow foundation is not advisable to be constructed near slope without stability
analysis study done
