health club memberships, transportation to and from medical facilities, and some coverage of
over-the-counter drugs. For dental and vision benefits, you might want to verify that your
dentist and optometrist accept the Advantage plan’s coverage.
Prescription Drug Coverage
The three plans in your evaluation all have low costs for the drugs you take, as you can see on
page 4 of the evaluation. These costs are similar enough that they may not be a factor in your
choice. The Humana Gold Plus HMO plan is the lowest-cost choice – it has no costs for your
drugs if you continue to use mail-order for your prescriptions.
In whatever plan you choose, you might ask if it’s possible to have your current prescriptions
transferred to the mail-order service of the plan you enroll in. And when you need to get a
prescription filled at a retail pharmacy, Osco Drug is a preferred pharmacy in all three of the
plans. Once you’ve enrolled in a plan, you might show your enrollment card to the Osco Drug
pharmacist.
Choosing a plan
You might wait until late June or early July to enroll in the Advantage plan of your choice. One
reason to wait is that if you change any of your prescriptions, you will want to know its cost in
the plan you choose. If you do change drugs, let me know and I’ll see what your costs will be
(there’s no charge for this). And if you have an appointment with Dr. Marcheshi in the next few
months, you might want to see if she has any suggestions about the plan you should enroll in.
Janet, please let me know if you have any questions. Also, you’re entitled to a free “Welcome to
Medicare” physical during the first year of your enrollment.
Sincerely,
David Armes, CFP®
