Dear Carola:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. Please check the information on the client data sheet on
page 5 to make sure it is correct. Also, please verify that the attached list of your Rx drugs,
dosages, and monthly quantities is accurate.
It would be good to enroll in your supplemental coverage within the next few days so that it will
be effective on November 1. Once you enroll, you should have your enrollment cards within a
couple of weeks. In addition to enrolling in Part A and Part B, which you’ve already done, you
will need to get a Medigap policy and enroll in a Part D stand-alone plan.
Here are the steps you might follow:
First, enroll in the Part D stand-alone plan, as discussed below. You can enroll in
a plan by calling its toll-free number and making sure that the person you speak
with understands that you want your coverage to begin on November 1. After
you’ve enrolled, you can pay your monthly premiums by check or by bank
transfer. Once you start receiving Social Security payments, if you wish you can
have your Part D premiums withheld from your monthly payments (as you will
do for Part B premiums).
Next, decide which Medigap plan you want – Plan F, Plan G, etc.
Using the premium information in Appendices B1 through B5, call a minimum of
three companies that have low premiums for the plan you’ve chosen. The
companies’ toll-free numbers are shown in Appendix B1. Then buy your Medigap
policy from the company that you choose.
In most cases the costs shown in your evaluation are for the 2019 plan year, even though you
will also be enrolled only for the last two months of this year. You indicated in your
questionnaire that you are interested in getting a Medigap policy, and so your evaluation
compares four Medigap plans.
