Professional Practice: Guideline for Quantity Surveyor Chapter 1
The First Council Meeting of the Institution was held on 14 th December 1961 at
the Conference Room, Survey Headquarters, Mountbatten Road . At the E.G.M held on
19 th June, 1966, the name of the Institution was changed to the Institution of Surveyors,
Malaysia .
The establishment objectives are:
To continuously improve the standards of professional practice and ethics
To promote the welfare and professional development of members
To expand by incorporating related disciplines into our profession
To continue to be relevant and of benefit to the public
1.5.2 Rules to Become Members of Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia
(RISM)
The members of the Institution are namely,
1. Fellows,
2. Members,
3. Associates
4. Honorary Fellows
5. Graduate Members
6. Probationers and Students
Fellows
• Every Fellow shall be more than thirty-five years of age, shall have acquired a
practical knowledge of surveying and shall have had not less than five years
professional experience after being elected as a member of The Institution.
• Every Fellow must passed examinations required by RISM
• Fellows qualified to hold a post in RISM including President or Vice president.
• Every Fellow shall be entitled to use after his/her name the initials FISM (i.e.
Fellow of The Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia)
• Every Past President shall be entitled to use after his/her name the initials
PPRISM (i.e. Past President of The Royal Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia).
