P. 10
Prayers Which Overcome Institutional Evil
are redemptive and restorative. The Church is commissioned to
judge the world and angels. (See I Corinthians 6:2-3). The Church
should never condemn anyone. Those who reject Christ condemn
themselves. We are called to evaluate (judge) everything in life and
on the earth according to the word of God and the revealed will of
God. Then out of this evaluation out of revelation, we pray
accordingly.
2. Imprecatory prayers are prayers that ask the Lord God to do
what He has promised to do about evil and wickedness.
Let me illustrate: Psalm 1:4 says: “the wicked are like chaff which
the wind drives away”, and Psalm 1:6 says: “….the way of the
wicked shall perish”. Then in Psalm 37:18 it declares: “the arm of
the wicked will be broken”. Now connect these verses with Psalm
35:5-6 where we read: “let them be like chaff before the wind, with
the angel of the Lord driving them on. Let their way be dark and
slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them”.
Imprecatory prayers are asking the Lord to deal with
wickedness and evil according to His promise to deal with them
and overcome them!
Practical observation: The Body of Christ needs a revelation and
then application of imprecatory prayers. I am convinced there are
wicked rulers in the earth that will never repent and acknowledge
the Son of God (Ps. 2:12) that the Lord God wants to remove from
power. Would the situation in the island nation of Cuba be different
if the Church in Cuba had this revelation and prayed imprecatory
prayers? I believe we should ask the Lord to redeem civil
government rulers (unless He tells us they will never repent), but we
