Who reads ebooks?
When you’re planning your ebook marketing, it’s useful to have an overview of the ebook market.The following research is taken from the international bibliographic data provider Bowker, and gives an overview of readers’ ebook reading and buying habits.
• More women than men read ebooks – 63% of ebook readers are female.
• 60% of ebook readers are under 45.
• The most popular genres in ebook reading are mystery, suspense and detective fiction; general fiction; romance; humour; and historical fiction.
• Of the people who buy ebooks 93% are active on Facebook, 92% use email and 63% use social media.
How does this information help you to market your ebook? Well, it lets you know where your audience is likely to be found (i.e. online, social media) the publications and blogs they might read, and the way in which they communicate with their friends... all of which can help you shape your marketing message.
