Adding Information to your
Accounts
Nobody wants to follow Mr X at undisclosed location with a mystery photo. How do you connect with someone like that? Remember, readers want to connect with you. So how do you do this? By adding information to your accounts.
We would recommend you at least do the following:
• Personalise your Username. It helps if this is the same, or as close to the same, across all social media platforms. We would recommend using your author name or book name if you don’t want to write any further books.
• Add an author photo. This doesn’t need to be a professionally-taken photo, it can be a photo of you and your book – or even you and your dog!
• A biography. Social Media isn’t the place for too much formality. If you’d prefer to keep things relatively private, a brief line about WHO you are and WHAT you do is better than a blank space!
• A ‘header’ or ‘cover photo’. On both Twitter and Facebook, it is encouraged to display a header/cover photo – this is a picture or graphic that will appear at the top of your page (like a banner) and you want it to make a statement. Most authors have their book or books appear on here to show a quick snapshot of what a user can expect from this page.
• A website. This is only relevant if you have one! 9
