You can also ‘tag’ users in posts to go to all of your followers. By ‘tagging’ this means that you have notified that user they have been mentioned, also creating a direct link to them for promotional purposes. For example, if you wanted to say that you had been published by Matador, you would tweet:
‘My book has just been published by @matadorbooks!’
This would then let us know we had been ‘tagged’ as well as helping anyone else who might be interested in self-publishing and admires your book find our page.
You can retweet. If you find someone’s tweet interesting, you can then ‘retweet’ it so that all of your followers will see this. (Likewise, if anybody retweets one of your tweets, your tweet will appear to all of their followers.) You can either just retweet or you can retweet with a quote, which means you can add in some text such as why you found in interesting.
In our experience, users tend to notice tweets with images more. You can either add a picture into the tweet by clicking on the picture icon or you can paste a website link to an online image, which will generate an image by itself.
When tweeting, think carefully about how to reach your target market efficiently. Mention signings, provide links to review coverage and talk to fellow authors. When tweeting to reviewers or media outlets, tailor each tweet, be friendly and include their @username if you can.
