The Einstein family
suffered a major
setback in 1894 when
the company owned
by Albert’s father filed ITALY
for bankruptcy. Albert’s
parents responded
to this misfortune in
a somewhat unusual
way—they moved
to Italy, but they left
Albert behind! They insisted
that he finish his education at Luitpold,
and they set him up in a boardinghouse.
(A boardinghouse is a temporary home that
also provides meals for the people who are
staying there.) Albert continued his studies,
