Another important event in Albert’s life
that occurred in 1896 was that he gave up
his German citizenship. In spite of his young
age, Albert had already come to believe that
violence and warfare were the wrong ways
to go about resolving conflicts. He had
left Munich and the Luitpold Gymnasium
in part because he was afraid of being
drafted. Germany was becoming more
aggressive at the time, and even more so by
Albert was only 17 when he
enrolled in the Swiss Federal
Polytechnic School.
