Now that he had thousands of people
listening to his every word, he often spoke
about the importance of finding a way for
all nations to exist peacefully together. He
also joined a group called the “Committee on
Intellectual Cooperation.” It was a part of the
League of Nations, an organization formed at
the end of World War I. The Committee’s
purpose was to discuss ideas on how world
peace might be achieved.
Albert used his connections through the
League of Nations to encourage scientists of
all fields to work across national borders for
the sake of exchanging ideas, to move science
forward without interference from politics.
LEAGUE OF NATIONS
The League of Nations was an organization
created in 1920, in the aftermath of World
War I. Its purpose was to encourage peace
and cooperation between the countries of the world.
Although it only lasted until 1946, it inspired the
founding of the United Nations.
